Dual Occupancy Community Consultation

The deadline for written submissions has now closed.

In 2016, changes were made to the Northern Territory Planning Scheme to allow for more than one dwelling to be built on lots larger than 1000m² in Zone SD (Single Dwelling Residential).

The Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics has commissioned an independent review of these provisions. The review will undertake independent research and broader community and stakeholder consultation as part of this process. The goal of the review is to obtain public input to assist Government to determine if the Northern Territory would benefit from allowing Single Dwelling Residential blocks to be developed for two dwellings.

The review is looking for your feedback on what you think about the current dual occupancy provisions and whether there is a need for dual occupancy. The review is also seeking to understand how the community thinks dual occupancy development could be accommodated in our suburbs and what the main considerations should be if provisions for dual occupancy were developed.

The Discussion Paper on this page provides further information on this review, including information that will help you consider the topic of dual occupancy further.
