Joe Barrett is an experienced land access, stakeholder engagement and community relationship manager with more than 20 years of experience working on major Australian energy and infrastructure projects. He has excellent project management skills and a great eye for detail.
A professional communicator, Joe focuses on developing and maintaining strong professional relationships. He has led stakeholder engagement for federal and state elected representatives, regulators and authorities, councils, corporations and community interest groups including Indigenous stakeholders, across a wide range of platforms. Joe recognises that community and stakeholder involvement is critical to a project’s success. He has decades of experience connecting with the community and gaining the support of those who live and work in the area. Joe has successfully managed and personally negotiated hundreds of land access agreements for clients, who have trusted his experienced and friendly nature to engage openly and honestly with landowners.
Joe has a strong record engaging with government decision-makers and influencers. He has extensive experience working with government departments to secure approvals, and working with regulators and statutory authorities at all levels. Joe has worked with engineers, designers and construction teams to assess the risks and opportunities on each project before planning on the best way to engage stakeholders and the community.
Prior to joining Elton Consulting, Joe worked on the Pacific Motorway Upgrade with Roads and Maritime Services as the Contractor and Property Relations Manager. Joe was responsible for contract management and ensuring that contractors met their stakeholder and communications obligations as detailed in project deeds. Joe also had an auditing focus including managing contractor relationships, implementing the communications plan, and community relations to ensure construction activities and the project schedule remained on target.
Joe is currently completing a Diploma of Project Management from the University of New England, has completed the IAP2 Conflict in Engagement Certificate and is a graduate of Ford Communications and Public Relations.
