In 2010 Elton Consulting prepared a Social Impact Assessment to accompany the Draft Development Plan for the proposed redevelopment of 22 Bendigo Street, Richmond, located within Yarra City Council. Vivas Lend Lease planned to redevelop the site for a mixed use, primarily residential, precinct including a range of housing types, shops, community facilities, heritage and public domain. At full occupation, the proposed development would comprise around 550 homes, with a population of around 1,100 people.
The Social Impact Assessment outlined the socio-economic characteristics of the site and its locality; the nature of communities affected by the proposal; existing social infrastructure in surrounding areas and its adequacy to service the increase in population. In addition, the Social Impact Assessment outlined the potential benefits for, and impacts on, new residents and the surrounding community. It recommended mitigation management measures to address identified impacts of the proposal.
