Elton Consulting provided Laing O’Rourke Construction with communications and stakeholder management services during the tender and delivery phase of the Sydney Light Rail early works construction program.
Two senior staff worked within the Laing O’Rourke team to develop and implement a community relations and stakeholder engagement program to support the construction planning and delivery phases.
We developed a series of plans to support construction activities including the relocation of buried services in Sydney’s central business district and the demolition of an apartment block, as well as upgrades and improvement works along the existing Inner West Light Rail.
Challenges included major traffic and pedestrian detours during service relocation works, out-of-hours and 24-hour construction activities and demolition works close to residents, educational and health institutions.
Key communications strategies included on-site community relations, targeted resident letters, individual face-to-face engagement, key stakeholder meetings, community notifications and traffic impact advertisements.
