Helping people and communities affected by the 2020 NSW bushfires

Elton Consulting is proud to have helped the people and communities affected by the 2020 bushfires take the first, small step forward to move on from the disaster and rebuild their lives.

Partnering with Public Works Advisory and Laing O’Rourke, Elton led communications and engagement in support of the Commonwealth and NSW Government funded initiative to clean-up over 4,000 fire-affected properties throughout NSW.

The importance and success of the project was recently recognised at the 2020 NSW Premier’s Awards, winning the award for Recovery and Resilience.

The focus of the program was to clean-up and make safe properties used for residential, small business or primary production purposes that were destroyed by the bushfires.

Adopting the mantra “more than a project” – a reference to the essential community service being performed for communities ravaged by the one in one-hundred-year disaster – Elton’s team worked tirelessly to deliver quickly, safely and to the highest quality.

But it wasn’t easy.

Project delivery is about overcoming challenges, but it’s rare so many and of such magnitude present at the same time. High emotions, a global pandemic, broken communications lines, complex logistics, compressed timeframes, a decentralized workforce, time away from families, wild dogs – and more.

Elton developed and implemented the communications and engagement strategy. And at the height of the recovery effort, Elton had 60 professionals committed to the project, either interfacing with property owners as part of four on-ground teams or in the call centre directing communications.

Over 40,000 emails, 5,000 incoming calls, and 4,000 site inspections were completed by Elton’s team across a ten-month period.
